Two sets of homeowners achieve the house and location of their dreams by very different approaches to renovating.

Last week, I was at a party where no one was renovating — now that's rare. But there were two couples who were tearing down their old houses and building new ones on the same sites. Well, no one could believe it. People said, "Why would you want to do that to an old house? Doesn't it mean anything to you? Couldn't you just renovate?" It was a hot topic all night. The only people in favour of the new houses were the architects. To wreck or to reno, that is the question.
