TV: Episode 14 - What Does The Future Look Like?

From countertops to new technologies to patented painting techniques, the future is now.

Just the term "futuristic" scares me. The associations are bad: cold, alien and impersonal. I was in an antique store recently and saw row after row of French armoires and I said to the owner, "A few years ago, I couldn't find one of these when I needed it." He said, "Well, we don't need them anymore. We've got flat screen TVs now and they've liberated our decorating so this is like a morgue for French armoires." You would think that I would be so excited about new technology that I would want to know what's coming in design, but I guess it's the unknown that's so scary. Designers Karim Rashid and Gisue Hariri explain the benefits of rolling with the pace of technology and incorporating new elements to same-old design.
