TIP: ALWAYS DO A STANDARD 'PAINT BOARD' TEST before painting walls and ceilings. Simply pick up a 2ft. x 2 ft. (61cm x 61cm) square of cardboard, poster board or particle board from your local craft supply store or lumber yard. Paint the board with your desired wall colour and do another board for your ceilings (today, many paint manufacturers offer small "tester" or sample cans of paint for this purpose that cost less than a regular quart of paint.) Once dry, hold your paint board up to your walls to test the colour. Try this during different times of the day to see how both natural and electric light can affect your colour. For instance, a creamy yellow paint that appeared to be soft and subtle on the paint chip could look lemony and acid-bright when tried on your paint board and exposed to harsh mid-day sunlight. A paint board test will save you money — and time — in the long run.

What are the wall dimensions, not including mouldings? Remember to measure along all recesses in the wall.
Height:  m
Width:  m
Length:  m

TIP: Mouldings made from paint-grade wood can be an inexpensive means of adding character to a room. Crown mouldings placed between the wall and ceiling can help to emphasize vertical height. Baseboard mouldings can give a room a sophisticated, finished look and may be matched to suit your decorating style (i.e. Georgian, modern, shaker, etc.). If you do not already have them, consider installing mouldings when redecorating. Paint them a light, neutral tone in a pearl finish or semi-gloss paint that complements your wall colour and floor covering.

Measure windows, main and closet doors as well as any other surfaces that will NOT be painted. Click "Add" after entering each item.

TIP: In most cases, doors and window trim are usually painted in a pearl or semi-gloss finish for easy cleaning. Today, however, there are some exciting new flat paints on the market that are fully washable. Ask your paint dealer which option is the best for your home.

Do you want to paint the ceiling? yes
If so, do you want to paint the ceiling with a different colour of paint? yes
How many coats of paint would you like to apply?

TIP: While standard ceiling paint (flat white) is popular with many homeowners, ceilings can look very appealing when painted in a shade that is slightly lighter than the wall colour. If you have neutral-coloured walls (like beige, taupe or cream) you can paint your ceiling colour in a complementary neutral shade. For instance, in a classic-style home with beige walls and generous crown mouldings, a ceiling painted in a very pale blue-white looks especially fresh.
