Lots To Do In Week Two

In The Workplace
The busy world of advertorials is keeping the creative juices flowing. The search for images and catchy wording for mock-ups is a lot more difficult than I could have imagined! I also spent some time writing captions for images soon to be on the site, as well as updating Houseandhome.com’s Shopping and Source Guide for tracking down great home finds. Shortly I’ll be immersed in the world of merchandising and working in the dream closet of products.

Advertorials require a lot of planning, test prints and resources. Ah! Unfiled papers!

In The Loft
An open concept living space is breathtaking for its airiness, but hard for storage. I’m going to have to come up with some interesting solutions, especially to hide things in the loft that I’m not fond of — like this:

This was poking out from under the couch. The worst part is that it lights up!

Besides a couple small closets, these are the only shelving units. Side note: that column alone probably adds thousands of dollars of value to this space for an “authentic” loft feel.

Of course, my favourite “storage” piece in the loft is this epic Samsung fridge. Opening those french doors at once is a holy experience. It’s really quiet too, necessary for open space living.

In The City
With so many small shops in the Kensington area, just a few intersections away from my loft and past Chinatown, it’s hard not to find something really neat!

Sold at S.E.E.D, this hydroponic mini greenhouse/seed starter was marketed to people who want to grow their own bean sprouts, but it’d be great for gardeners too.

As creative as “found object” décor may be, I’m starting to be peeved by claims that the materials are being saved from landfill when a lot of the time they could have been put in the recycle bin!

In The Online World
Realizing that lower seating would make the living room feel even bigger, I searched for pieces that strayed from Moroccan-styled floor cushions. If it would fit within budget, these Smarin multipurpose pieces would be a nice addition. The simplicity fits the look I’d like to go for and the shapes would soften the angular space.

This Tara Donovan installation inspires me to make a wall covering using the same process, but perhaps mounting it to a board first since I’m unable to mount to walls.

I’d love to get one or two of these small Samsung Pico projectors, the easiest way to display art or photos in any space without damaging walls. When moved around, projected on objects, or displayed on skewed angles, the effect would be eye-catching. The best part of all is that I could turn the art off if watching a movie or wanting to admire the sun-cast wall patterns instead.

After the first week of settling in, the second week allowed me to explore and try new things. I can’t wait for what’s to come in the next few weeks. There’s a lot I am wishing to pack into only a couple of months!
