The Ultimate Bedroom
Once the workday is done, the dinner dishes are put away and all of the quotidian duties are fini, a magical moment arrives. At long last, it's time to slip into something more comfortable and savour some downtime in your bedroom retreat. Perhaps a room like this...

A luxurious-yet-rustic fantasy retreat within the home — using elements inspired by nature — is exactly what CityLine designer Karen Sealy of Sealy Design Inc. has in mind for the principal bedroom and ensuite bathroom of the 2010 Eurodale Dream Home at the National Home Show (NHS). (This blog and the Little Projects Guide are sponsored by NHS.) "A tree will hang over the bed, providing a canopy of branches lit with tiny lights, peeking out of the centres of wool flowers," says Sealy. "Silk drapery will also soften the walls of the bedroom, with mirrors hanging above the drapery to reflect the tree branches and twinkling lights. The overall effect will be dramatic yet feminine, magical yet earthy."
As for the palette, Sealy is working with a variety of soft taupes and greys, including Benjamin Moore Silver Fox (2108-50), Angelica (AF-665), Abalone (2108-60) and Metropolitan (AF-690). Natural materials such as rope, yarn, wool, silk, burlap, shell, stone, linen, cotton and wood will add texture and organic character to the space.

Sealy's ensuite bathroom will include a walk-in shower with a painted-wood slatted floor, a Kohler sound system and WaterTile Rain shower panels and body sprays. "Think organic, rustic and serene," says Sealy. But the designer is most excited about an idea that anyone can try it at home: repurposing kitchen-plumbing fixtures in a bathroom. "Look for surprises like a trough sink in our ensuite area," she says, adding, "The Kohler Undertone 33” long trough sink is typically used as a utility sink in kitchen or bar, but can also be used as a bathroom sink in a pass-through wall of the water closet."

To see Sealy's bedroom and ensuite bathroom design, visit the 2010 Eurodale Dream Home at the National Home Show between February 19 to 28, 2009.
