Sizzling Symmetry

Never mind Marilyn Monroe’s fluttering hemlines or crimson lips, it was actually her perfectly symmetrical face that earned her bombshell status. Beauty, it turns out, is all about balance. Which is why this very simple room by New York interior designer Hillary Wallace is so striking. For anyone less than confident about their mix-and-match skills — and let’s face it, even designers have a hard time making eclectic look elegant — this trick brings sweet relief. Plus, buying in twos means it takes half as much time and effort to furnish a room. I bet double or nothing that has you smiling.
See How To Balance A Living Room for more tips on furniture, fireplace and area rug placement.
